Bob Safir began his career in the pro music biz at the tender age of 17, placing songs with Top 40 artists The Standells and getting his own record deals, first with GNP Crescendo, and later, ABC Records. Bob says, “When I realized that ‘Top 40’ means your entire music career is over by the time you’re 40”, I moved on to other ventures. “Other ventures” included founding Track Record Studios in Los Angeles where he engineered and produced for artists like the The Association, Canned Heat, Brian Wilson, and Lauren Wood. “Other ventures” also included writing articles for industry pubs such as Keyboard Magazine, Songwriter, Mix Magazine, Cue, and The Hollywood Reporter. (Bob tells us he is currently writing an article for Electronic Musician entitled “Rap Music for the Elderly: How to Subsidize Your Social Security Income.”) Bob wrote the original score to “Elroy’s Toy,” a children’s video directed by Jan Nickman (creator of “The Mind’s Eye”). Bob’s original music clients include Microsoft, Miller’s Outpost, Splash Studios, Rymell Multimedia, Gamco, and Aureal, Inc. Bob says his entire client list is too long to cite here (code for: can’t be bothered to think of any more). Bob Safir’s music ranges from acoustic guitar-based shuffles like “0198 Dirt Road Incident” to complete orchestral arrangements such as “#0212 Bishop John”; although he has testified in court that he refuses to write accordion music in 2/4 time or do Muzak covers of Captain Beefheart’s Greatest Hits. |
