 Chip Martin
Chip Martin is the kind of composer that musicians hate to love, because his stuff sounds so great. One can imagine the rumblings in the audience at the 2000 Georgia Music Industry Association Songwriter of the Year awards when it was announced that 3 of the 5 songs that made the finals were written by Chip. It was depressing for the other writers when they realized that, no, Chip does not own pornographic photos of the judges, his songs are just that freakin' good. Check out the music on Live At the Bluebird Café on Turner South and you'll get the idea.

What is even more irritating is the incredibly warm sound he gets from a rig that makes Japanese minimalism seem like Willie Wonka's attic. We often suspect that when we leave Chip alone with his perfectly placed Roland VSS 1680 and one synthesizer, he quickly runs to the closet to pull out the 'ole SSL console, but our surveillance cameras have found no such thing. He claims it's all in the song (he plays drums, keys, bass and sings his own tracks). Whatever. We're watching you, Chip.
