Most commercial music composers are strong at a couple of styles and then dabble in other styles purely as an exercise, not unlike Hugh Grant acting in suspense films. As far as we can tell Brian Brill has spent so much time writing virtually every conceivable kind of music under deadline that the entire lexicon of musical language has become, quite frankly, his bitch. As a staff composer for Yessian Music in Detroit/New York/LA, Brian has amassed TV commercial credits for clients such as GM, Chrysler, Ford, Coca Cola and Nike. He’s the keyboardist/arranger for David Barrett, composer of CBS Sports/NCAA basketball anthem, “One Shining Moment.” The duo recently won an Emmy Award for the PBS documentary “The Magic Never Ends: The Life & Works Of C.S. Lewis.” When asked what musician, past or present he would most like to tour with, he oddly answered “Jelly Roll Morton, the 1920’s stride pianist”. We truly wish we could make this possible, if only to watch the jazz historians at Smithsonian go “Hey. Who’s this goofy white guy suddenly appearing in all the Jelly Roll Morton archive photos?”
